How the math works
Four numbers, no black box.
- Total input cost per acre — fertilizer (N + P + K) plus seed, crop protection, and fuel. That's what it costs to grow the acre.
- Break-even yield — total input cost ÷ expected price. The bushels per acre you need at your price to cover costs.
- Break-even price — total input cost ÷ expected yield. The price per bushel you need at your yield to cover costs.
- Projected profit per acre — (expected yield × expected price) − total input cost. What's left per acre if your yield and price hold.
